The inspiration for Elder Stories
The inspiration for Elder Stories is based on the belief that capturing loved ones’ voices, stories, values, and presence is the honor and thanks our elders deserve. That each story has a life force strengthening family narrative. By harvesting elder wisdom, stories that unify and connect generations, families and communities are able to create and leave a lasting legacy that serves as both parable and teaching for our descendants.
Ageless friends
All my life I’ve been intrigued by elder stories. Elder wisdom has always resonated and inspired me. I have made senior friendships my entire life. I’ve never seen an age gap as an impediment to deep friendship and understanding. My Mom once remarked, “You’ve been adopting seniors and them adopting you since kindergarten”.
Aging attracts the idea and desire to cultivate wisdom
For the first time in history, people over 60 outnumber those under 18, raising awareness of a widening generational divide. I deeply believe American culture is deficient in intergenerational connection, and feel sharing elder stories will bridge this gap in a compelling way and leave behind the most valuable words and lessons to pass along.
More than their story, teachable moments to span the generations
Elder Stories captures our loved one’s life stories and legacies in a living medium told by them in the way they want to be remembered. We elevate elder wisdom to modern teaching and rethink a village mindset where families and communities come together to learn and share across generations.
